Table Types and Options Portable vs. stationary tables Question 2 "Why do so many practitioners choose a portable rather than a stationary table?"Answer. There is no doubt that a portable table is a compromise, however for the student or newly qualified practitioner it represents an inexpensive investment that if chosen wisely, will serve them well for many years. A portable table can be taken to classes and on home visits, either with patients, or doing "swaps" with friends. Full-time practitioners generally graduate to a non-portable table when they start up in practice at a fixed location. Portable tables offer the benefits of price, convenience, flexibility and light weight. On the other hand they are not as strong, stable, stiff or professional looking as stationary tables. Most practitioners do not sell their portable tables when they purchase a stationary or electrically operated table, but hold onto their portable for backup or emergencies.
